UG Lynxes Show Promise Despite Opening Day Loss to Reformers
Reformers Ladies kick off the 2025 ABL Women’s Division in winning fashion, outclassing a determined UG side at El-Wak Stadium

The 2025/26 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division got underway in exciting fashion on Wednesday as Reformers Ladies secured a confident 43–31 win over the University of Ghana (UG) Lynxes at the El-Wak Stadium.

Bright Start, Tough Finish
Despite being underdogs, UG Ladies began the game with energy and intent, matching last year’s semi-finalists stride for stride in the opening two quarters. Their movement, hustle, and defensive discipline frustrated the more experienced Reformers side early on.
However, the tide shifted in the second half. The Reformers turned up the heat offensively, led by their experienced core who showed composure under pressure. Their ball movement improved significantly, opening up the floor and creating high-percentage scoring opportunities that UG struggled to contain.
Room for Growth
For Coach Eric and his UG squad, the performance offered both encouragement and lessons. While the team’s fight and first-half execution will be seen as positives, they were ultimately undone by lapses in transition defense and a lack of cutting edge in the final quarter.
With two new teams added to the women’s division this season—both believed to be on UG’s competitive level—the Lynxes have a real opportunity to better last year’s tally of two wins. But that will require consistency and sharper execution across all four quarters.
Strong Start for Reformers
For the Reformers Ladies, it was a statement of intent. The win not only gets them off the mark but also underlines their ambition to return to the playoffs. With stiffer competition expected in the coming weeks, they will be looking to build momentum and sharpen their chemistry as the season unfolds.
