Airforce soar to victory againt UG Women
The comeback win helps them snap their recent losing streak
AIRFORCE'S TACTICAL TRIUMPH
Airforce assistant coach Flow credited their win to a key adjustment after the third quarter, assigning point guard Getty to shut down UG captain Zainab, their main offensive threat. The strategy worked, sparking fast breaks that turned the game around and ended Airforce’s three-game losing streak, which Flow attributed to the absence of players on military courses. With the squad back to full strength, he believes their struggles are behind them, a sentiment echoed by captain Stephanie Amoaba, who said, “After three straight losses, we told ourselves we are not losing this game. Our losing streak is over.”
UG'S FOURTH-QUARTER COLLAPSE
UG captain Zainab voiced her frustration with second-half coaching decisions, rating them a “4/10.” She criticized assistant coach Abel’s substitutions, arguing that he “did not read the game well” and made changes that disrupted their rhythm. Zainab also lamented the lack of team spirit, contrasting Airforce’s lively bench with UG’s silence. Still, she expressed respect for Abel, adding that if head coach Eric is unavailable, she would “highly recommend” him.
MAUREEN'S FRUSTRATION AND RESOLVE
UG’s Maureen, a rising star in Ghanaian women’s basketball, expressed deep disappointment after the loss, admitting she underestimated Airforce and describing their play as “dirty.” She claimed she was slapped and grabbed by the neck without fouls being called, calling the defeat “a big blow.” Still, her resolve remains firm as she vowed to “create my own name in women’s basketball in Ghana.”
THE PRICE OF INEXPERIENCE
UG assistant coach, standing in for the head coach, admitted that inexperience cost his team, marking his second loss in charge. “I think it is inexperience that made me lose. I am now going to reflect and see where I went wrong,” he said, adding that while he embraces the opportunity as part of his coaching journey, he struggled to read the game and connect with the women’s team. Meanwhile, Airforce’s victory not only snapped their slump but reignited their season, showcasing grit, discipline, and tactical awareness—the qualities they will need to climb the standings. For UG, the defeat was a painful reminder of the importance of execution and composure, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiery rematch should the two sides meet again.
