Last Sunday, at a dinner event organized by the league at Delish Restaurant, James Amotoe—one of Ghana’s finest basketball players—made his intentions for the upcoming Playoffs unmistakably clear. The event, dubbed Plates & Plays, is designed to become a pre-playoffs tradition, with this first edition bringing together a representative from each of the 16 qualifying teams for an evening of conversation and light-hearted banter.

What Happened

During the event, Tenequah Nyamekye—whose team missed the playoffs but served as one of the hosts—made a passionate plea to the University of Ghana men’s team to show their true potential by pushing the Spintex Knights to at least a Game 3.

What Was Said

Amotoe, balancing preparations for the Road to BAL campaign and the defense of their Division 1 title, insisted that the Knights are in peak form and hungrier than ever. Interrupting Jones Mensah’s response to Nyamekye’s challenge, Amotoe issued what sounded like a warning to the rest of the league:

“The Playoffs? Forget, bro. It will be a sweep. Forget it.”

His confidence underscored the Knights’ dominance and their intent to maintain their stranglehold on the competition. Jones, however, remained composed, saying his team can beat anyone on a good day and that “the talking will be done on the court.”

What’s Next

The Spintex Knights will travel to compete in the preliminary rounds of the 2025 Road to BAL campaign before returning to face Coach Eric’s Guerillas in their semi-final best-of-three matchup. The 2025 ABL Playoffs tip off on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the El Wak Stadium.
