The making of Ghana's favorite
Basketball Competition

Founded in the 80s, the ABL is one of the longest-running basketball leagues in Africa. What began as a local city competition has grown into a structured, multi-tier league known for its passionate fans, storied rivalries, and impact on basketball culture across the nation.

With three competitive divisions, 40 teams, and over 200 games each season, the ABL is without a doubt the heartbeat of basketball in Ghana.

A Launchpad for Talent

The ABL has long been a breeding ground for elite basketball talent in Ghana. Over the years, the league has produced numerous national team players and professional athletes competing across Africa, Europe, and North America.

Today, the league continues to serve as a crucial pathway for players aspiring to reach the next level—whether that be the Basketball Africa League (BAL) or international stardom.

Growth Through Structure

To support the growing basketball ecosystem, the ABL has expanded into three core divisions:

Women's League

A platform spotlighting female basketball excellence and driving inclusion in the sport.

Division 1 Men's League

The men's elite tier, featuring the best teams and top-notch competition.

Division 2 Men's League

A competitive proving ground for emerging clubs.
